The distal epiphysis of the femur is classically reported as a marker fetal maturity and thus identified in bioarcheological context an indicator that individual died at or around time birth; it provides crucial information creation biological profile associated burial practices. aim present study was to re-evaluate this use by investigating extant sample assess (i) age-related frequencies both femoral proximal tibial epiphyses (ii) influence factors such sex, vitality, morbidity on maturation epiphyses. conducted medical CT scans acquired utero ex between 2008 2017 hospital Marseille (France). final included 248 individuals aged 26 42 completed gestational weeks (GW).
